A big night of Ultimate Fighting Championship action is set for Saturday night in Beantown, as two titles are up for grabs in what is shaping up to be an exciting pay-per-view.
The main event will be for the Bantamweight Championship, as Aljamain Sterling will defend this title once again, this time against Sean O’Malley.
This will be the fourth title for Sterling, since being awarded the belt in March 2021. Since then, he beat Petr Yan, T.J. Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo, all in main events. His win over Cejudo at UFC 288 this past May marked the most consecutive title defense, as a bantamweight, in UFC history. Sterling has a career record of 23-3, with 11 wins coming by knockout or decision. He is also looking to keep his nine-fight win streak intact.
O’Malley has managed to work his way up the charts to contend for a championship in the UFC for the first time. Though he has not fought since last October, the Montana native has had a massive influx of fans over his time in the promotion. A four-time Performance of the Night winner, O’Malley is on a five-fight unbeaten streak, with a 16-1-1 career record, 11 wins coming by knockout.
The other championship up for grabs sees Zhang Weili taking on Amanda Lemos for the Women’s Strawweight title.
This will be Weili’s first title defense since winning the belt for a second time last November, beating Carla Esparza via submission in UFC 281. Of the Chinese-born fighter’s last six bouts, five of which have been for the title. After losing to Rose Namajunas, twice, Weili has risen again to be the division champ. She comes into Boston with a 23-3 record, with 19 wins coming by knockout or submission.
Like O’Malley, Lemos is challenging for a title in the UFC for the first time. Following wins over Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez, the Brazilian has moved up the ranks to be in the championship conversation. With a 13-2-1 record, Lemos has knocked out her opponent eight times.
