Head of Unit Early Warning and Forecasting - World Food Programme (WFP)

Dr. Kyriacos Koupparis is a global leader in tech-driven solutions for food security and climate resilience. He heads the Early Warning and Forecasting Unit at the UN World Food Programme, leading a team of 15 experts using AI, big data, and predictive analytics to monitor food crises in 80+ countries. Previously, he led WFP’s Frontier Innovations team, launching groundbreaking projects in AI, blockchain, and robotics—such as a collaboration with Google Research and ESA, and the WFP-X Moonshot Launchpad for urban food systems. At USAID, he oversaw $38M in innovation-focused initiatives across Asia and MENA, advancing digital connectivity, women in science, and water-smart technologies.

A Yale World Fellow and Rockefeller-Acumen Food Systems Fellow, Kyriacos is a sought-after speaker on the future of food, science, and tech, with appearances at Yale, Godrej Forum, and Binance Blockchain Week. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from UCSF and has trained in leadership at Yale and UC Berkeley.
