Head of SDG2 Acceleration at United Nations World Food Programme Innovation Accelerator

Regina Schmidt is the Head of SDG2 Acceleration at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation Accelerator, founded in 2015. Regina is leading the sourcing of disruptive ventures and the sprint piloting by connecting them with WFP’s global network and field operations in over 120 countries and territories. Her portfolio of ventures is addressing a wide range of social impact and sustainability issues, including climate change, food system transformation, gender equality, and emergency response. The innovations are leveraging low and high technologies like artificial intelligence or machine learning. The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as one of 2023’s Best Workplaces for Innovators for its work to accelerate innovations to address global hunger. Accelerator-supported innovations positively affected the lives of more than 37 million people in 88 countries and territories in 2022. Most recently, the Accelerator runs programs for external partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Humanitarian Grand Challenges, and other UN Agencies. Prior to joining the Accelerator, Regina worked in the consumer goods sector and was Partner at a leading strategy consulting company supporting global companies along the consumer goods value chain in innovation management, growth, and efficiency. Regina holds a master’s degree in international business administration.
